Radio Joint Audience Research (RAJAR MIDAS) survey for Autumn 2019 is available now to provide context and insight into how, when and where audio content is being consumed within our world.

The following results are comprised from a sample of 2238 former RAJAR respondents and covers multiple areas and types of listenership. The report details listenership by demographic, device type as well as location.

 

Studies conducted in Autumn 2019 have yielded the following results featuring some comparisons with the previous quarter (Summer 2019) and Autumn 2018:

Audience & Listenership

  • 73% of adults have listened to Live Radio in the last week (74% last Quarter) (74% Autumn 2018)
  • 11% of adults have listened to On Demand in the last week (11% last Quarter)
  • 4% of adults have listened to Podcasts in the last week (4% last Quarter)
  • Listenership peaks for On Demand Music at 15-24 year olds  at 35% followed closely by 35-54 at 20% (18% last Quarter)
  • Listenership peaks for Live Radio for 55+ at 88% (93% Spring 2018)
  • Live radio reaches max audience at 8-8.15am (This has remained consistent since Autumn 2018)
  • Podcasts reaches max audience at 5.15-5.30pm (Compared to last quarter – 5.00-5.15pm and Autumn 2018 which was 8-8.15am)

 

 

 Device Type and Location

  • 26% of all adults listen to audio via AM/FM Radio (compared to 27% last quarter) whereas 15% listen via Smartphone
  • 59% of adults listen to live radio while driving/ travelling (compared to 60% last quarter)(56.7% in Autumn 2018)
  • 37% of adults listen to podcasts also while driving/travelling (compared to 35% in Autumn 2018)
  • 75% of all listening on a voice activated speaker is to Live Radio. (67% in Autumn 2018)

 

 

Podcasts

  • 68% of podcasts are listened to on a smartphone (compared to 67% last year)(68% last quarter)
  • 48% of podcasts are listened to at home and 18% at a place of work or study (Compared to 45% at home and 21% at work/study  in the last quarter)
  • 91% of people listen to podcasts alone (90% in Autumn 2018)
